Detailed view

  • About 20 of more than 100 artists from all over the world, who painted a 3-dimensional sculpture – called Buddy Bear – represent their personal vision of their country. Their work for a world of freedom and tolerance was already seen in many countries and they are still on tour all over the world. The United Buddy Bears Circle had a stop even in hot spots like North Korea and Israel. The Bears are touching their paws while standing in alphabetical order according the host countries language. They are like an UNITED BUDDY BEARS assembly. Near the Brandenburg Gate (today the site of the United States Embassy) they promoted living together in peace and harmony 2002 for the first time. By now more than 35 million visitors in five continents have seen the colorful representatives of almost all countries of the UN – their message: “We have to get to know each other better, trust each other more and live together more peacefully.” This motto was kept in mind when the artists coming from all over the world worked on their bears in a huge studio in a Berlin tram depot, where Jackie Chan came to visit them. The film quotes Sir Peter Ustinov opening the proceedings in 2003 and you can listen to the artist’s answers to the children’s questions as well to the music specially composed for the different cultures and the event.
